Ballerina dress

This is my blue ballerina Alannah Hill dress. I found it at an outlet, stupendously reduced in price, and pounced upon it.

This is how I wore it to work today.

Vague attempts at spinning prettily (failing)

Purple textured tights, also on sale.
Cruddy sequin shoes, probably should not be worn in public any more.

Bluebird locket.

Time for more fluffing about dancing

*insert music box sounds*

twinkle, twinkle, twinkle...

...dee dee dee dee dee...

Are these photos a good size? I always though larger photos would be too in-yer-face.
Let me know what you think?

Purple hair

I'm temporarily working part time, which means I have Fridays off work. I treat them as a free day. A day to relax and absolutely nothing useful or productive.

This morning I dyed my hair purple.

I don't know why I initially chose pink when I underwent my transformation, other than it's an obvious choice for an unnatural hair colour. But purple is my favourite colour, and I wanted purple hair.
So now I have it.

I used a a Fudge colour called Raspberry Beret. It's rather red, but I that's preferable to a blue-purple. A blue-purple may not stand out enough for my liking.

The lighter streaks were a total fluke.

Difficult to take photos in direct sunlight without my face half covered in shadows.

I also want to show off the dress I'm wearing today. On Fridays I wear clothing I haven't worn yet / for a while / am not sure whether to keep. I have never worn this dress after owning it for about 2 years, and it's so pretty it's a shame to keep it buried in my wardrobe.

Happy Fabulous Friday to all.

Strawberry print blouse

Pattern: New Look 6407

Alterations: I rounded off the corners of the collar, and tucked the sleeves in. This fabric requires no additional decoration, so I kept the buttons simple and invisible as possible.

Matching accessories, natch.

Eeeek must remember to take photos PRIOR to wearing an item and wrinkling it all over the place.

Gawd it is hot in Melbourne... soooo over it.
Heat = no brain work for typing interesting blog post.

Australian adverts 1889 - 1975

1889 - 1900

1902 - 1913

1914 - 1919

1920 - 1927

1928 - 1933

1934 - 1938

1939 - 1945

1946 - 1954

 1955 - 1975

These adverts and photographs are all taken from Social Sketches of Australia by Humphrey McQueen (link to ABE books). Jay found a copy and gave it to me knowing I love all things "old." Unfortunately the ads grow fewer and fewer throughout the later decades (1950's - 1970's).

I'd like to try the rust proof corsets and Preservene soap, thanks! (No toil!)

Happy Sunday.
