I used to look like this
And then this
And more recently, this
And then.... this...
My hair began having a life of its own. After faithfully obeying me and doing what it was told for 8 months, it started to run amok.
The purple turned blue or faded completely. The black which I had been able to bleach to a deep red colour became sort of rusty and orange. The time it took to maintain wasn't worth it any more.
Behold, my plan.
I thought plummy purple hair with a pale pink shaved side would look quite striking. It could even be my new colour theme. I started thinking up nail polish combinations to go with it.
The deep purple worked!
The pale pink dye turned my hair the colour of salmon. After one wash, it became flesh toned. I had a flesh toned patch on my head. I looked half bald. And shiny. I was so upset I didn't take any photos. You'll just have to imagine my shiny salmon hair.
Plan B.
One of these pinks, when washed over with peroxide, would surely turn into a nice soft pink colour.
I was right. It turned out a beautiful, soft and extremely patchy pale pink. Now I had a patch of hair which looked like it had been coloured by a 3 year old.
I was so annoyed at this point I was ready to just shave the whole lot off.
Final plan of action. Colour hair with pink. Wash several times. Pink should fade to appropriate shade.
YES. It worked.
went green.
SERIOUSLY??
WHAT THE HELL.
I am seriously tempted to just cover the whole lot up with pitch black and have done with it.
I really miss my purple hair.
Grrrrrrrr!!!! I hear your troubles lovely ... damn pain in the arse hair! Today The Stylist tried pink hair chalk ... loads of fun for the wee lass, without the commitment. I've been putting off doing my roots for two weeks and absolutely positively must do it tomorrow! I'll be sending you purple magic vibes:) xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks! I haven't tried hair chalk yet but it does look like fun. Maybe I'll try it on my short side when I get the rest sorted out!
DeleteI know the feeling, but not real travel. I think you look good.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely Sunday.

Thank you - I suppose it could be worse!
DeleteNooooo!!!!! I'm sorry! I was actually looking forward to this post when you mentioned you were going to write about it lol. Why can't we just leave our hair alone?! I have been dying my hair an array of colors since 1997! I really hope you come up with a solution that you're happy with. I'm feeling like I just want to cut all of my hair off. Best of luck!!!!!

I think that's how long I've been dyeing mine for as well... I started with red and then went to brown and black for about 10 years. And thanks! I'm giving the colour one last try before I just jam a bottle of black over the whole lot.
DeleteO, for feck's sake! Poor darling, bloody hair woes!
ReplyDeleteMany, MANY years ago I used to bleach my hair, and it once went GREY.It was horrible.I wonder if one's hair just gets fed up and fights back?! I do hope you get it all sorted out, darl, without losing any hair! XXX
Thank you! I am pretty sure my hair is throwing a hissy fit at me. All that bleach probably didn't do it any good... my fringe broke off a while ago so I've given up on that at least!
DeleteCool hair

Thanks! Did you notice I don't actually like it?
DeleteOh honey, I'm so sorry that the gorgeous colour combo envisioned proved to be so elusive to achieve. I can totally picture what you were going for, and one definitely gets a sense of it in the end photos (even though the purple has decided to change colours of its own free will). I don't have firsthand experience with bold hues like this, let alone two at once, but is there a way to cover the pink and redye the purple? Medical tape and plastic wrap or a cut up shower cap perhaps? Just a theory, of course.
ReplyDeleteYou look, as always, so very beautiful, and I'll be keeping my fingers firmly crossed for you that you're able to get both colours to play nicely (so to speak(.
Big hugs & tons of understanding,
♥ Jessica
Thank you Jessica! I can picture what I was going for as well! I am going to make one last effort with it before I give up. Thanks for your ideas too :)
DeleteYou're very creative and enterprising with your hair. So many different looks!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! At least I can say I've tried :)
DeleteSheesh! Boo on things not working as planned no matter what you do!

Yeah, BIG boo... how hard should be it to control one's hair??
DeleteWhat about a color protecting shampoo?? Garnier and Aussie has some I think. :( As much as I like green hair, I'm sorry to hear it happened when you wanted that deep plum color. What about doing that deep plum all over, even on some of the shaved part?
ReplyDeleteWaaa I used one of those shampoos! I think I've just stuffed my hair from over-use of products. The green is a nice shade, but it's not what I want! *pulls hair*
Deletethe purple shade looks great on you, I think suits you best then others.

Thank you! I quite like the plum too, I am going to try and keep it if possible.
DeletePretty amazing hair!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Hopefully I'll agree with you soon :)
DeleteI'm sorry you've been having hair dye troubles (how dare it develop a life of its own!) but I have to say it looks surprisingly great green to me!
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame about your dye woes :(
ReplyDeleteMy sister is a real one for dying her hair all the colours of the rainbow. Even my mum had violet streaks put in once. Thankfully *touch wood* I have never had a mishap, expect for black permanent dye not taking AT ALL when I was a teen. A friend dyed his red and it went lilac and someone I once knew had the classic bleaching mishap and it went orange AND green xxx
