The Winter is Coming dress

No, this dress does not have anything to do with Game of Thrones. But it is the last summery dress I'll be making this year.

 

 I usually make at least one coat every winter. Last year I got carried away with summery dresses and made nothing else (almost) all year. By the time we got through winter and summer came around again, I was kind of annoyed at myself.

So here is the last summer dress of the year.

I absolutely love the fabric I've used for the bodice. The print is just beautiful. I have a feeling it would also look amazing with a skirt in a rusty red colour. I don't completely love it with the blue skirt of this dress, but it will do.

For some reason the skirt came out really tight. It fitted really well at the waist but there was a lot of seam allowance along the zip, which I had to let out. I haven't tried sitting in it yet so I'm going to assume it will not actually split open when I do.

I have crazy cat lady hair in these photos. I started with my hair in a bun, decided it was boring, so I took it out and it just fluffed up everywhere. I still have one short side from when I shaved half my head a while ago; at the rate it's growing it should be shoulder length by the end of the year.

And just to prove I really am going to make wintery stuff for winter, here is a little sneak peek of a coat I've started on.

F*ck off summer. There is velvet and fur and silk in my future and I must wear them.

Three (or six) skirts, with purple

Er, so two weeks ago I started making 4 pencil skirts at once, thinking I had the makings of an excellent human production line and would finish the stupid things all in one day.

Here is what I learned.

Making multiple versions of an item is very boring. Especially when they're lined. It's like making eight items but only ending up with four (yes, I actually lined something. On purpose).

So here are 3 of the 4 skirts, the 4th one not having made it past the cutting-out stage.

These are all made from leftovers of other dresses and skirts I've made over the years.  This purple skirt is made from the remains of this dress.

I don't know what I originally bought this for, but I think it was another skirt. Since I don't own anything in this fabric I'm assuming the first skirt was a failure.

The 3rd skirt was to be red tartan. 

Moving right along to the 4th skirt, this fabric is... 70's? 60's? Who can tell me? It's printed, and soft like brushed flannel. 

I couldn't decide if the purple shoes or blue boots suited it better.

I can't get enough of glittery nails lately. It's like having 10 little drag queens dancing on my fingers.

Leopard tee # 2

Yes, it's another leopard print top. AGAIN.

Obsessed? With leopard? Moi?

Well, possibly. Same pattern as before, with longer sleeves.

And how I wore it today...

Just as well I made an effort and dressed up today, because I had a FRICKING annoying and stressful day. I'm a firm believer in not allowing myself to look like crap just because I feel like crap.

 

My job has been more stressful than usual lately, but fortunately it will return to normal next week. I had to come home early and de-stress in a bubble bath with a cup of tea (not that I'm complaining about a bubble bath).

This pencil skirt is the one I originally made to wear with my sailor top at the costume partay.

 

Staple feel-good items - leopard print, red lipstick, Marilyn pendant, heels. Also, fur (not shown here, but I finished the look off with my brown bunny fur coat).

Naughty Librarian

Saucy Secretary?


I was told I look like a naughty librarian today.


I don't usually do an 'outfit post' unless I've made the outfit, but I bought these cherry-coloured tights the other day and they're just too pretty to not blab about. The entire outfit was based around the tights.


(Is my arm on backwards?? What happened?)



The hair is different too... I generally avoid wearing it up as it usually gives me a headache. Luckily, the bun was ok and I'm still wearing it now!

Vogue wiggle dress

I've been wanting to make this dress for some time now.

Ta-da!


I didn't realise how fitted this dress would be. It's very close-fitting around the waist and the skirt really curves around the hip line. The skirt is straight but it looks very pencil-y when worn.


I left the ruffle off the bottom because I don't like it. It doesn't need to be there.


And now here I am wearing it.

The fabric is actually black with pink polka dots. It looks kind of purpley in the photos but they are pink!

I wore my best socks too.



But why make one when I can make two?!


This fabric is from the same range I used on the red dress dress and the red mannequin dress.



I slapped some warpaint on for these photos.



I could probably do with some new poses but this dress kind of speaks for itself.
