The winter sewing project | Part one

My winter sewing project is the re-creation of two coats worn by Miss Fisher in the Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries series. This coat was worn in the episode Raisins & Almonds.

I had no hope of
A) actually replicating the coat, or
B) making anything in a 1920's style that would be flattering to wear. I'm not suited to the era, body-shape-wise.

My version of this coat has a faux-fox fur collar, is fitted about the waist with no belt, and does not come with a matching skirt. The length is about the same as the original but with a flared skirt.  The fabric is wool and it's very warm.

Pattern is Vogue 8346.

It's lined in steel grey-blue silk, used from a silk sari.

After being absent for a few weeks I'll be catching up on blogs, responding to comments and repaying the compliment to new followers over the next few days.

Parts two and three of the winter sewing project coming soon!

xx

  3. Ahh, I love this coat to pieces, Dame!!! This is fab. And your hair is so vibrant. Oh, if I had the guts to dye my hair in such a bold color. :-/

  7. Fantastic winter frock - I just adore how the bottom flare out a little (so charmingly peplum-ish!), and the plush, bury-your-face-in-it-all-season-long collar. You look like you'd be warm enough in that to handle a Canadian winter! :)

*PS* Thank you very much for both of your splendidly nice blog comments today, dear gal. Indeed, while the situation with our basement is far from fun, it could have been so much worse, and my heart breaks for those who have lost their homes (and/or most of their belongings) due to all the recent Canadian floods.

*PSS* Aww, thanks! I have that same belt in red, and am thinking I'll sport if for a Christmas season look this year - one would be hard pressed to find a more fitting belt for December than one with a big red bow. :)
