Double dots

It's possible I'm obsessed with polka dots lately.

I managed to put in a 'spot' (geddit!!??) of shopping the other day (first outing since surgery) and came away with a parasol, cardi, purse and dress... all in polka dots.

Anyway, this skirt is made from the same pattern as the dinner plate skirt.

And yes... my little red cami is also covered in polka dots.
Why are they called polka dots, anyway? Must research.

And since I had enough fabric left over, I cranked out this little blouse which I'm rather pleased with!

It looked rather boring and banker-ish until Jay suggested some cute buttons to liven it up.

I've been planning on wearing this with some navy high waisted jeans, but my poor stomach isn't ready for jeans just yet so I thought I'd pair it with this little ruffly skirt for now.

I made the yellow version, but with a regular collar.

The sleeves were rather wide, so I added two little tucks and covered them up with a button.

Oh! And I re-dyed my hair... it went kind of magenta this time, so I've clipped in some purple fringe highlights as well!

The next thing I make or feature on this blog will definitely not contain polka dots.

 Probably.

  1. The wee little pink heart buttons on the sleeves is such a squeal-worthily cute touch! I'm a fellow polka dot fan, too, and constantly find myself drawn to these darling wee spots (my mom loves polka dots as well and I think I must have inherited my love of them from her - perhaps there's a polka dot loving gene :) ).

    1. I really wanted cherry or strawberry buttons but couldn't find any. I think once you've been polka dotted, you're hooked for life!

  2. Gorgeous blouse... and wearing it over a tulle skirt is genius. Your sewing skill is amazing.

  4. This is spectacular! I adore ALL things polka dots! I think polka dots must have some kind of German origin. Since the Deutsche dance the polka. I dunno, I might be 100% off. LOL!

    1. Actually you're kind of right! As far as I've been able to find out they're named after the dance when the world went through a polka craze. There were polka hats, polka jackets and everything else in between! I'm glad the dots have been the surviving relic of such a craze!

    1. Thank you my dear! The sleeves were a bit of a fluke but I'll remember it for future baggy sleeves :)

  6. I found this which may answer a few questions - http://ask.yahoo.com/20041125.html

I love polka dots and hanker after a white full circle skirt with large red polka dots. I always said if I ever got to go to the Tour de France I would make one, in honour of the polka dot stage jersey and as the tour comes to GB next year, I shall gleefully be making one!

    1. Wow thank you! So interesting to read where the word polka comes from too. I know absolutely nothing about the T de F, but if there's polka dots involved I might have room get interested. Definitely start making that skirt! :)
